I can remember Ashlie’s dance moves distinctly -— from the packed pool parties in Vegas to the small and sweaty clubs my brothers’ band used to play back in their indie rock days. She knew how to shake her hair loose when the right song came on, and sing the lyrics without a worry in the world. This party-girl spirit will inspire us to celebrate her life and legacy on August 20th at our first Just for Styles retail crawl and wrap party.
The Just for Styles Crew is so happy to announce that we’ll have an incredible woman leading the musical charge at our wrap event at Brainstation following our fun day on Queen Street West. Her artist name is Kae Dal but when she’s behind the turntable we call her DJ Franky. This double-persona adds to her allure as she lights up Toronto with her talents, DJing at some of the hottest spots including the Shangri La’s Bosk patio.
When asked why she decided to be involved in our event, DJ Franky said it felt like a natural fit with her intention to be connected to the community and empower other women. “Look Good Feel Better enables women fighting this disease to reclaim a sense of self, and I want to help that process in any way that I can.”
DJ Franky understands the effects of battling cancer as her father and grandmothers have all dealt with the disease. “I remember my grandmothers staying true to their style while going through chemotherapy as a way to remain rooted in themselves,” she says. This couldn’t be more true in how we remember Ashlie dealing with her own battle -— facing each day in a bold and beautiful way.
Get a preview of what you can expect from DJ Franky by listening to her original music under both of her musical names on Spotify, Apple Music and SoundCloud. We can’t stop listening since we discovered her smooth and uplifting stream!
When asked what she thinks should be our theme song for the event, DJ Franky recommended Whiney Houston's 'I'm Every Woman' as a song about female strength and unity.
